Artist Statement
I create ceramic art that is meant to be inspiring and uplifting. It’s refined yet raw, elegant yet crude, functional yet something to be admired and contemplated.
With my work, I want to enkindle others to pursue their creativity and make the beholder feel the energy, care, and love that goes into each piece. I want my work to communicate and spark inspiration, life, and authenticity.
My creations are physical expressions reflecting the environment around me and my diverse, far-reaching interests. As with many artists before me, I’m deeply inspired and influenced by the elemental landscapes of New Mexico and the creative energy of its towns like Santa Fe, Taos, and Abiquiu. This is reflected in my use of earthy colors, dynamic shapes, and contrasting, evocative textures like high gloss. I love creating pieces that balance the masculine and feminine, and everything from traditional Japanese ceramic techniques and artistry to the use of wild-sourced materials can show up in my work depending on where my mind is. I merely go with the flow and see where the clay, energy, and creativity take me.
